Travis applied to the Medicine Hat Paramedic program a while back and was unfortunately put on a wait list, so we simply never really thought about it again, assuming he could just do the program through the Lethbridge College (it would end up taking a little longer). Anyways, one delightful friday afternoon, I was in Shopper's Drugmart when all of the sudden my phone rand, and it was Travis...(I was confused because he was working and then I instantly became worried because the last time he called me from work, he stepped on a nail and needed me to come take him to the ER). Travis sounded shocked and very excited on the phone....
Turns out there was a last minute cancellation/dropout in the program so there was a seat that opened up and he was the next in line! Awesome! However the school needed a decision right away! So here I was in Shoppers Drugmart, totally in awe at this situation, trying to figure out some logic...suddenly forgetting what I needed to buy. I quickly left the store and we decided that we would go for it!
Right after we decided, I called my mom, then cried a little bit, and then realized there was 10 million things that needed to be done before we could move cities in just over a week.
This happened on a Friday, and Saturday we went up to Medicine Hat and found an apartment, and Monday night Travis came out and had orientation on Tuesday and classes began on Tuesday. I was scheduled to work the whole week at the hospital which was great because it was good hours and it also probably prevented me from having a mental breakdown about all of this. So I was able to move in on Saturday.
Total craziness.
I guess its a good thing I wasn't able to find a full time job in Lethbridge because I would hate to lose that! Luckily I was able to get an interview at the Medicine Hat Hospital in the Central Processing Department (so I can continue being a surgical processor) and I think it went really well! (Other than the fact the lady was over an hour late...but that's alright ! I'm desperate for a job!) If I get hired, it would only be casual and I would have to work my way up, but it sounds like it would be a decent amount of shifts.
Luckily our ward was super friendly and great, I cant wait to get to know more people here, they seem great!
This city is a little confusing. But I guess living in Lethbridge my whole life, I'll think anything other than home is confusing. I'm sure I shall figure it out.
Also, when we came up here to look at apartments, we had set up appointments through Kijiji and so we thought we were set. Every single place we looked at smelled like cat pee and marijuana. It was SO sketchy. I was seriously worried. So we then decided to just drive near the college and look for "for rent" signs. We pulled up to an apartment with a sign and tried to get into the building...no luck.
But actually, there was an old man, mowing the lawn and chewing tobacco that asked us if we were looking for a place.
We nervously said yes, and then he told us to follow him in our car. Then he spit some tobacco.
He was the resident manager of the apartments just a block down, he showed us a bunch of places that were decent, cheap and didn't smell. So we got a nice 1 bedroom place from the nice old man we found on the street.
I will put up pictures of our place as soon as I get it organized and such! I also will need Travis to hang stuff on the walls...but I should probably fill my empty picture frames first!
Well that's about it for now! Just needed to rant about the crazy times that have been happening!
